This is an excellent book. The author provides a page-turning narrative of the Manhattan Project and even the science behind the making of the atomic bomb. He gives us profiles of the scientists and government officials who made it happen. The author’s opinion that the bomb should not have been used, especially on civilians (mainly women and children), is well argued and documented. Japan was trying to end the war from early 1945, but Roosevelt’s cruel “unconditional surrender” prevented it. The fact that the U.S. spared half a dozen Japanese cities from General Lemay’s fire bombings so that they could be targets of atomic bombs, demonstrates that it planned to murder innocent women and children with this fiendish weapon. We left Hiroshima, Nagasaki and other cities untouched in order to assess the damage that the A- bomb would inflict. Then, without warning we unleashed it. The author clearly illustrates that the U.S. was not interested in military targets- even though that was the lie fed to the American public.
After Japan’s formal surrender the U.S. refused to acknowledge the devastating effects of radiation poisoning and did not provide medical assistance. In fact, the U.S denied that there was any harmful radioactive fall-out. Ham’s narrative of the government’s behavior certainly doesn’t square with the history books used in our schools. In those texts the U.S. is a reluctant warrior and benevolent victor – always fighting fairly and helping the vanquished.
It was FDR and Churchill who decided on this reign of terror from the sky. Unlike other heads of state, and contrary to the Geneva Convention, these two creeps declared that civilians were the same as soldiers. And they deliberately and mercilessly murdered millions of them. They targeted civilian areas of cities for their relentless incendiary bombings. They killed millions of innocents in Germany and Japan with a ferocious, excessive, unconscionable, and unrelenting policy of fire bombings. They destroyed churches, libraries, schools, museums, hospitals, and civilian homes without a second thought. The pilots even strafed fleeing civilians with machine gun fire.
Most people living in the U.S. or Britain today have no idea of the heinous nature of the Allied strategy – or know that we considered civilians to be combatants. But in the 1940’s after years of poisonous, hyperbolic propaganda from a paranoid, Zionist controlled press, Hollywood and radio, most American, British and French soldiers were filled with so much hate that they saw no difference in killing an enemy woman or child from a soldier.
This brings me to an aside. If the Allies held this illegal view regarding civilians, why shouldn’t Germany or Japan? The incessant outcry over the so-called holocaust is really mute when we truthfully examine the Allies behavior. The citizens of both Germany and Japan were virtual prisoners in their cities and totally defenseless against the Allied bombings. The Allies also summarily executed civilians as well as thousands German soldiers (see Thomas Goodrich’s “Summer 1945”) without a whimper from the press or any other so-called humanitarian organizations. In the massive European re-settlements 1946-1948, over 10 million German civilians were murdered. Never heard about it in the NY Times? Are we allowed to question it? We’re not allowed to question the so-called holocaust- that would be “hate speech”. Or if you’re an 89 year old German woman questioning the holocaust in 2018, you’d be sent to jail! The Inquisition would be proud.
We should also remember that the U.S. handed Stalin one million German soldiers for slave labor. Even some 15,000 our own soldiers who were prisoners of the Germans and “liberated” by our wonderful Soviet allies were never returned. They were sent to the Gulags like their German counterparts. Their families received “Missing in Action” letters from the government. Truman knew where they were, but never pressed Stalin to return our boys.
Once we are exposed to facts, it’s difficult not to view the Allied behavior in World War II as worse than Japan or Germany. So much slaughter could have been avoided if Churchill had negotiated any of the half dozen peace proposals submitted by Hitler. If Roosevelt had stayed out of the war, Bolshevism would be a distant memory. But they murdered millions by obeying their Zionist masters whose pathetic, psychotic hatred of Germany had to be satiated with a Christian bloodbath.
By any standard FDR, Churchill and Truman and most of their generals are guilty of crimes against humanity. Luckily for them, they were the victors. But, history has a long memory. Future conflicts may not be so favorable to the vaunted Allies. Based on the behavior and terms they established in WWII, the Allies certainly don’t want to be among the vanquished in the next war.

Hiroshima Nagasaki The Real Story of the Atomic Bombings and Their Aftermath Paul Ham 9781250047113 Books Reviews
Great book!
Well written.
This book should be read by everyone who has their finger on the launch button or involved with nuclear bombs .. not so much as stopping the work on nuclear energy as understanding the ramifications and responsibilities associated with its use in weapons of war.
Brilliantly done. A must-read for any history buff and anyone interested in the issue of nuclear arms and disarmament.
Thanks.
I thought I knew a lot about the Manhattan Project and the lead up to and aftermath of the atomic bombings. However, Ham's masterfully researched and written book was a page-turner proper education in the less than sterling episode in history.
Easy to read explanation of the military and political 'justifications' behind the building of the first atomic bombs and their use to end of
WWII.
Paul Ham paints a vivid picture of the parlous position facing Japan's civilian population with its fanatical obedience to their Emperor who, in turn, was controlled by Japan's military elite.
